In addition to regular Park Day gatherings, Big Oak members often organize fun learning/socializing activities that the group can participate in together. Over the years, events have included: annual Not-Back-to-School and Halloween parties, teen dances, children’s plays at local theaters, camping trips, river floats, movie screenings, cooking and craft parties, Parent’s Nights Out (dinners, movies, live theater), adopting a family for Christmas, and creating care packages for the homeless (just to name a few).
Our Big Oak Discord Server and Big Oak Minecraft Server allow folks of all ages (including parents!) to make and maintain friendships online. We also host online Zoom chats and discussions, story times, and other online classes and activities where members share skills, talents, ideas, and resources.
Recent online discussions for parents have included: Homeschooling in California 101, Unschooling, Homeschooling Kids with Learning Disabilities, Household Hacks, Stress Relief, Online Safety and Other Digital Concerns, and Parent’s Night – Jackbox Party Games.
Recent online events for families have included: Family Bingo Night, Pet Show & Tell, Making Paper Snowflakes, and a Teddy Bear (and Stuffies) Tea Party, along with creative sessions in the kitchen, making things such as Truffles, Garden Bread, Ice Cream, and Elderberry Syrup.
